What Can Cause A Differential To Fail?
Jim & Sons Transmission tells our customers in the Cuyahoga Falls ~ North Canton area that the differential in a vehicle is no different than any other component in that it is subject to wear and some vehicle's differentials fail before others. The leading cause of a differential failing is due to using the wrong lubricant type and specialty lubricants. Water can also be a culprit to a differential failing as it can enter through the vent or seals. This often happens when driving in high water. When water enters it will emulsify the differential lubricant and result in rusting on gear and bearing surfaces. Seized U-joints that result in vibration can cause differential failure as well.
Great service and people
Tim McMahon of Stow Ohio
"Great service and people. Max even cleared the snow and ice off my windows when I started my truck up to leave."
His shop is incredibly clean and his staff is great. I can not say enough about Jim, except that I would like to steal him and have him here in D.C.

"Once again, Jim has come to my rescue. I live in Washington, D.C., and whenever I am in Akron I have Jim service the transmission on my 2004 Honda Odyssey (200,000 miles). Whenever I have an issue or question about my transmission, I call Jim. Actually, I call Jim whenever I have a question regarding my van. ... I call him from the Honda service dealer as well ... Even though I am in D.C. he is always there, professional and ALWAYS helps me. I really trust him. In 2003, Jim rebuilt the transmission on my 1998 Grand Voyager. His shop is incredibly clean and his staff is great. I can not say enough about Jim, except that I would like to steal him and have him here in D.C."
I would recommend Jim & Sons to everyone.

Robert Gingerich of Minerva Ohio
"My experience with Jim and Son's Transmission was awesome. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Wayne and Amber. In two days the transmission in my 2007 Chevrolet 3500 was rebuilt and it was back on the road. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate this business a 10."
Honest, professional, friendly people with a long-standing reputation.
Bob Thompson of Stow Ohio
"Took our 04 Trailblazer with a 4WD problem to Jim's based on our regular mechanic's recommendation. Very glad we did! Max called me with a preliminary diagnosis on the problem and fortunately it didn't involve any new parts or expensive labor costs. In fact, Max gave me some tips to avoid having it reoccur. Honest, professional, friendly people with a long-standing reputation."
With service like Jim & Son's I understand why you're the best transmission shop in the Akron Ohio area!
Brennan Kolton of Stow Ohio
"We just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the excellent service we received at your shop. Our truck was ready when you said it would be ready. When we experienced a problem with the truck shortly after the repair, it was towed promptly and fixed immediately. There was no additional charge even though it had nothing to do with the original repair. With service like Jim & Son's I understand why you're the best transmission shop in the Akron Ohio area! Thank you again for a great job."
Truly a repair shop that can be TRUSTED
Tom Adamson of Stow Ohio
"Truly a repair shop that can be TRUSTED....I took my mother's 2007 Mercury Mountaineer there after a local dealership quoted a $4,500 repair for the transmission, Jim and Sons completed the work for less than $2,300. I then decided to take my 2008 GMC 2500HD there after another dealership recommended a $2,000 repair for a re-manufactured transfer case, Max assured me he would check it out completely, after keeping me informed throughout the entire process he and his brother found some loose wire connections, fixed those and did a complete service on the transfer case ALL for less than $300.00. Truck drives fine again. They have definitely earned my trust from here on out. I cannot say enough for them and the other staff. Please don't hesitate to take your vehicle there. Thanks again,Tom Adamson"
I would also like to say thanks for telling me the charges for your work which were 100% less than I had anticipated.
Bob Doherty of Akron Ohio

I would also like to say thanks for telling me the charges for your work which were 100% less than I had anticipated. I'm wishing that you will continue to have the best of success in your business. Without a doubt the most impressive experience I have had at an auto repair shop ever.
Mike Thompson of Akron Ohio
"I found Jim and Sons on the internet was very impressed with the reviews I read. I called every other shop imaginable and was not impressed by a single one. Called and talked to Max and came away very impressed. Scheduled the tranny service for my KIA. Had a load of questions and concerns and was not only assured it was the right thing to do, but I also came away with a vast amount of knowledge about these newer tranmissions and how they fuction and why they need regular serviceing. At a very reasonable price. I felt very comfortable there. I have read a lot on the correct procedure on how to service a tranny and i can tell you Jim and Sons does it the correct way. It was amazing to me how nasty the fuid coming out of a transmission with less than 50,000 miles was. The car shifts buttery smooth now; the difference is astonishing. Beverly is a real cool cat. Without a doubt the most impressive experience I have had at an auto repair shop ever."
Would you like to know what is wrong with Jim and Sons? Absolutely nothing!
Jeffrey Coleman of Akron Ohio
"Would you like to know what is wrong with Jim and Sons? Absolutely nothing! For the past two weeks I have had a horrible squealing noise coming from underneath my truck. A friend looked at it, told me it was the u-joints and offered to fix it for me. While I did appreciate his generosity, the squealing continued after his attempt. I then took my truck to a large chain auto service center to get their opinion and an estimate. Their diagnosis was also the u-joints and their estimate was through the roof. I asked another friend if he knew of an honest affordable place that I could take my vehicle. Before I could finish asking he blurted out "Jim and Sons". I set up an appointment to have my truck looked at the next day. Beverly and Max were two people that I dealt with at Jim and Sons. I do not think I have ever had a more pleasant experience dealing with anyone not only in an Auto shop but also in any service industry as I had with those two. My truck was dropped off the following day. Beverly was nice enough to drive me back to work within minutes. A few hours later Max called to let me know that my truck was ready. Not only did they save me well over $200.00, they also fixed the u-joint that my friend installed incorrectly.I would recommend Jim and Sons in a heartbeat to anyone. Do yourself a favor and go see them. You will not regret it."
